Last week the market rebounded after practically 2 months of falling prices lifting most fleece categories 50/80 cents clean per kilo, Skirtings and Crossbreds rose 20/30 cents while Cardings a modest 5/10 cents. A combination of favourable exchange rates and limited forecast supply combined with buyers competing to fill November shipments caused the sudden rise. With only 5 selling weeks prior to a rostered 3 week Xmas break, prices should continue there upward trend into the New Year. Although World economic conditions have not improved and may not for some time the main driver of wool prices will be limited supply during the next 6 months, and the fact the wool pipeline is critically low. The only potential hurdle in coming months has been the buildup of grower stocks in store due to low prices which may flood the market on the back of consecutive weekly gains, but I am confident to say we have seen the bottom of the market for some time. Expect further rises this week of 20/30 cents per kilo.
