Well measured finewools surged yesterday in all markets across Australia as lack of supply pushed prices 30/50 cents per kilo dearer, expect these high prices to remain at least until we see new season wools come onto market from July onwards. Medium wool types continue to drift sideways to slightly cheaper due to limited demand and a rising Australian dollar.
We are now seeing grower declarations for muelsing pinned to sample boxes on showfloors, I expect there will be orders placed in the market soon from mills around the World for unmuesled wool and this may lead to premiums being paid. At present no premiums are being paid but the 2010 deadline is now a reality whether we believe it is still the best method available or not, I will keep you posted from a buyers point of view / situation in coming weeks as things develop.
