Weekly Wool Market Report 15th October 2007'

Substantial rises across all micron categories occured last week as supply concerns trigger the market. Exporters generally believed the market would rise pre Xmas but the timing was the only question mark as the falling supply especially post Xmas spooked exporters into action. Activity from China/India even at historically high exchange rates fuelled the market as traders battled with topmakers for quantity, finewool types were most affected with 40/50 cent gains and medium microns enjoyed 20/30 rises. A large amount of inferior predominantly tender wool has helped lift the premiums for the limited well measured types. Expect this week similiar gains in National wool sales with all eyes focused on the superior Newcastle superfine offering where Italy is expected to dominate.
